First in vivo images

Images acquired on a 1.5 T Siemens Healthineers MR system

First V|LF-Spiro3D in vivo images acquired on a 1.5 T Siemens Healthineers MR system

Paris, August 30th, 2023 – Following the transfer of the Spiro 3D framework from GE Healthcare to Siemens Healthineers MR systems, we are pleased to announce that the first in vivo images were acquired on a healthy volunteer at the Foch Hospital, Suresnes, on August 30th.

The home-made MR gradient-echo sequence is based on the code developed by Dr. Franck Mauconduit of CEA NeuroSpin. The MR sequence has been adapted for lung imaging by allowing ultra-short echo-time acquisitions and enabling a specific sampling of the k-space (AZTEK). A dedicated reconstruction pipeline produced the 4D images of the free-breathing lungs.

The current goal is now to extract the biomarkers from these images and compare the results with those obtained on GE systems. Further work will also be carried to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the images and to further optimize the k-space sampling trajectory.
