First COPD patient at La Pitié

November 26, 2024 – First COPD patient at La Pitié

On November 26th, 2024, La Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital marked a significant milestone with the first successful use of the 3D Spiro sequence in MRI for a patient with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The patient’s day began at 9 a.m. with an MRI scan, followed by pulmonary function tests to assess lung function. At 2 p.m., after the patient was administered bronchodilators, a second round of pulmonary function tests was performed. The final MRI scan was conducted at 4 p.m., and by 5 p.m., all procedures were successfully completed.

The team worked seamlessly throughout the day to ensure that all imaging and testing protocols were executed smoothly. Despite the complexity of the combined procedures, everything was completed efficiently, and the 3D dynamic lung images were successfully captured, providing valuable insights into the patient’s lung function.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this achievement: Claire Barakat, Khaoula Bouazizi, , Naila Boudiaf, Samia Boussouar, Naoual Djebra, Alban Redheuil, and the entire technical and clinical team who worked tirelessly to make this day a success.

We are excited to continue enrolling patients in this research protocol, which will undoubtedly advance our understanding of COPD and improve the precision of lung function diagnostics. With each new inclusion, we are one step closer to enhancing the way we assess and manage respiratory diseases, and we look forward to seeing the impact of this innovative technology on patient care in the future.
