November 8th, 2024 – Ithar Gharmaoui, PhD student at UPSaclay

Hi! I am Ithar, a PhD student at the Multimodal Biomedical Imaging Laboratory (BioMaps) at Paris-Saclay University in France.

My academic journey began with a deep passion for applying physics to the medical field. After studying medical physics, I obtained a master’s degree in Biomedical Imaging from the Faculty of Medicine, Paris-Saclay University. Fascinated by the advancements in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), I joined the « Methodological and instrumental developments » team at BioMaps and became part of the European V|LF-Spiro3D project during an internship, which eventually led me to embark on my PhD journey.

My research centers on exploring the sensitivity of this innovative technique to various lung pathologies in both adult and pediatric volunteers, as well as its response to bronchodilator. My work spans from acquiring MRI data from volunteers to optimizing post-processing techniques and analyzing data to uncover new determinants and biomarkers of lung disease.

What excites me the most about this project is the opportunity it provides to grow, expand my skills and contribute meaningfully to scientific advancements by working with experts from diverse disciplines. Moreover, the chance to share my research with the broader scientific community at international conferences motivates me to push the boundaries of what we can achieve.
