Objectives
- Assess how healthy test subject and patients experience the research protocol, the spirometry exams, and the MRI scans
- Assess how medical procedures and monitoring devices can be improved, to optimize patient compliance and the patient-doctor relationship
- Explore how patients experience their lung disease and medical monitoring
- Explore how the test procedures impact healthy test subjects’ and patients’ embodiment
- If applicable: explore how healthy test subject and patients experience, evaluate and understand their test results
Procedure
This study uses ethnographic methods, including participant-observation, interviews (n=15) and survey data (n=90). Participant-observation is done by observing, and engaging with, the test subject as they go through the protocol. Test subject who do the interview do the first part after the spirometry exams, and the second part after the MRI scans, either immediately or several days after the monitoring procedures. Test subjects also fill out a survey that focusses on experiences and understandings of (medical monitoring of) the lungs. Depending on the hospitals, procedures might vary.
